The Tokyo Tower was Tachu Naito, structural engineer, in response to the necessity to construct a facility for television broadcasting antenna during 1950s, when Japan was expecting the Rapid Economic Growth to come soon. At the time of completion, it was the world’s tallest self-supporting tower. Naito also designed towers in Nagoya and Osaka. However, Tokyo Tower, which was modeled after the Eiffel Tower in Paris, achieved the most sophistication and lightness of impression in design, as the amount of steel was much less than that of other two structures.
