    • In Karuizawa (Japan’s choice resort), stands a house, a half villa for the Raymonds and a half studio for his summer office. Antonin Raymond designed a robust dodecagonal main space with a central reinforced concrete column and spoke-like logs, and a twin winged extensions for bedrooms and services. The entire southern front of the main space is outfitted with the set of fully operable shoji-screens and wide engawa-deck outside. Raymond stayed here with his staff in summer as much for avoiding heat and relaxation as well for continuing his design work. This is among Raymond’s major works in the later part of his career with a perceivably free spatial composition style.
