Kawai was an independent engineer without professional architectural education who was responsible for designing such facilities of Kagawa City Hall by Kenzo Tange, etc. in 1950s. He has built his own house for self-sufficient living in Toyohashi, Aichi prefecture, his local.The idea of stronger and cheaper material for housing, he has converted engineering corrugated tube to residential construction. Adapting a honeycomb structure to the facade, he has secured column-free living space.
