This cylinder building belongs to a private girls’ middle and high schools in the residential neighborhood in Yokohama. Two cylinder school buildings with twenty-seven meters in diameter and four floors, and a rectangle school building were constructed in series. After the WWII, when there was an urgent necessity to construct school buildings, Kanao Sakamoto, the architect, developed the efficient prototype of the school buildings with circular plan, and designed more than a hundred schools based on the prototype with some improvements in all over Japan from 1950s to early 1960s. This building belongs to the middle period of his continuous works of school buildings.
