    • Located in Chugoku Region of Japan, stands the Tsuyama Cultural Center on the location of the former Tsuyama Castle, surrounded by the low hills. This building has two functions: one is the hall which can accommodate 1,200 people and the other is the exhibition space whose exterior walls have incorporated the reliefs Kiyoshi Awazu. In response to the stone walls of the remaining castle, traditional Tokyou style bracket was used as a strong design motif. Subtle ensemble of shadow and light casted by these motifs adds some flavor to the building. This architecture reflects the consideration for the interaction between the modern architecture and vernacular architecture based on Japanese tradition.
