- At the corner of Gofuku-bashi crossing near Tokyo Station’s Yaesu entrance, stands one of the forerunning office buildings in post-World War II Japan. With this building, Kunio Mayekawa attempted to create an open and vibrant office space as typical of modern architecture design through making the entire structure lighter by jettisoning the heavy earthquake resistant walls, and by adopting of new industrially manufactured products as building materials. The cutting edge items of the time such as aluminum window sashes and lightweight pre-cast concrete panels were used on the exterior finish, and the ground floor was awarded with a limpidly modern teller space.
