The NCR Tokyo Headquarters Building (Currently/The Nippon Foundation Building
- Junzo YOSHIMURA, Matsuta Hirata Sekkei
- Takenaka Corporation
- Across from the Kasumiga-selki building, the first Japanese skyscraper, and just a few blocks from the US Embassy (Cesar Pelli), in Torano-mon, stands a notable office building. It is an 8-story, steel frame and reinforced concrete hybrid structure with a central core parti. Junzo Yoshimura designed with characteristic modern fineness such as evidenced in the black bands under the windows for a horizontal emphasis, the lightly capped thin parapet on the facade, and the open riser staircase made to look as if the treads and landings are floating. The building is finished in an excellent blend of the superb craftsmanship and new materials made with the latest technology. This building is also noted for being the first, in Japan, to implement the dual exterior wall system, termed as the “double skin” method, in recognition of the need to lower the burden on the environment, as the system more effectively separated the outdoor and indoor spaces to reduce the occurrence of cold and/or hot drafts around windows, while the space in the middle provided the added insulation.
