This is the one of his early works by Azusa Kito after he left Kunio Maekawa’s office where he was in charge of Kanagawa Prefectural Library and Concert Hall. He succeeded in creating a strong sense of place by locating high-rise laboratory building and low-rise library building with glass facades on all fours sides around the plaza on a sloped ground. Kito won the AIJ Award at this building. Since then, Kito was commissioned to design several other libraries and presented how new libraries after the war should be.
