  • This museum was built in the suburb of the ancient city Nara as one of the projects to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Kinki Japan Railway Company. Its collection includes not only Japanese but also Oriental art. Modeled on the castle in the Momoyama Period (16th century), the upper part of the façade is finished with the white plaster and the lower part of the walls is covered with traditional fireproof Namako wall (made of roof tile and plaster). Yoshida showed his own way of omission and abstraction throughout the building and succeeded in blending modernist elements and the Japanese traditional elements in his design.
