George Nakashima, who is well known as a woodworker, once worked for Antonin Raymond in Japan before the WWII. This church is his only architectural work in Japan that he designed on his own. The building consists of the bethel with shell structured roof and cylindrical baptistery with the cross on top of it. The bethel, though the floor plan is rather simple in diamond shape, offers dynamic space which is made possible by the shell structured roof soaring up while making a big curve. All the fixtures such as altar, preaching pedestal, aspersorium, pews and lighting fixtures, were also Nakashima.
