In Tokyo’s Ueno Park, a complex of multi-cultural facilities featuring a prime opera house, a smaller concert hall, a music repository-archives, and conference rooms was built to commemorate the 500th year anniversary of Tokyo (Edo) as a city. Kunio Mayekawa sorted and organized the dressing rooms and rehearsal rooms down in the basement, and the conference rooms and some office spaces up on the roof for a dynamic spatial apparatus of the main lobby design. The strategic deployment of conspicuously grand reinforced concrete eaves augments the grandeur of main lobby inside, as it defines a truly urban scale piazza outside.
