Coinciding with the UIA-TOKYO Congress held in Tokyo, the exhibition “The
Selection of the docomomo japan 150 − Future and Legacy” was held at the Gyoko-dori
Underground Gallery in September 2011.
It was decided to expand the range of selections to include works completed up to and
including 1975, to select a fixed number of works each year, and to select architectural
works that are at risk of demolition or possess regional characteristics and diversity that
reflects their local culture and environment.
Furthermore, in line with the mission of DOCOMOMO International, the architecture
was also selected according to purpose, such as residences or sports facilities, resulting
in selections such as the Row House in Sumiyoshi [125] and the Komazawa Park
Gymnasium and Control Tower [111].
As of 2026, among the selections from 101 to 150, one work has been designated as an
Important Cultural Property, seven works are maintained as Registered Tangible
Cultural Properties or other types of Cultural Properties, and nine works have been
demolished and no longer exist.
